What do cats find so alarming about cucumbers?
You’d think animals would know inanimate objects when they see them; but do they? I had a turtle who practically wore himself out performing courtship rituals to a ceramic turtle that was only there as decoration.
The line seems to blur, at times. I’ve seen cats react to stylized feline-shaped sculptures. My mother had a lamp, of sorts, that was shaped like a Siamese cat. It sat on a shelf somewhat isolated and not reachable by a real cat. their tomcat took note of it and would stare at it for hours.
