Can you answer this? True or False: You don’t roll down the window for a selfie when the bear comes up to your car. Sorry, no hints.
It used to be general knowledge: “Don’t mess with a bear who has cubs.” Everybody knew that.
Fast forward to “What’s wrong with this picture?”
A woman from Scotland and two of her friends, on a vacation to Rumania, were driving through a wooded tract when they saw “a group of bears.” So they pulled over because the driver wanted to get a selfie with the bear (https://www.yourtango.com/self/woman-mauled-bear-taking-selfie). This is not to be confused with the person who fell backward into the boiling geyser, trying to get a selfie, or the one who took one too many steps off a mountain.
The tourists told the press they think the bear tried to climb into the car because “he” (with cubs? no way!) overheard them talking about food and it made him hungry. Did the bear understand Scottish English? Maybe he took a correspondence course. You’d think bears in Rumania would speak Rumanian.
But back to the selfie. “I thought he (there we go again) wanted to be friends,” she said as she rolled down the window. The bear got hold of her arm and mauled it. She’s lucky she wasn’t killed. They were all lucky they were still in the car when it happened.
How can this be? Three grown women, and not one of them had ever heard you don’t bother a bear with cubs? Public education at work! Do they think Goldilocks was a real person? I mean, this is ignorance on a monumental scale.
Unbelievable. This is just one of the many “benefits” of current technology. Great, eh?
The idiocy of this goes off the charts. There are wild animals out there, and they are not playing by the same rules as a domestic animal. They can’t talk, and tell you what is on their mind, and they will act as they see fit.
Even small wild animals can be vicious, and it’s best to keep your distance. The policy of not feeding bears is for the good of everyone concerned, human or bruin. If they don’t associate humans with food handouts, they will probably keep their distance. If you keep your distance, chances are that you will be safe.
Meanwhile, I guess you’d better watch what you say around animals, in case they take it the wrong way.
Along with a healthy fear of wild animals, a fear of God is missing.
I just took a look at the link, they were talking about food and the bears knew…ha, ha, ha… I am sorry she got mauled, but this is, as you say “goes off the charts.”
And the other two women didn’t say anything… like… what, are you nuts…don’t roll down the window! Roll it up, roll it up!!!
