Do you hear the crickets chirping?
I don’t like to report nooze on Sunday, but this latest example of Stupid Government deserves a mention.
California has lost some 10,000 jobs in the fast food industry since huckleberry Gov. Gavin Newsom, on April 1–a day that somehow seems totally appropriate–raised the minimum wage to $20 per hour (https://www.breitbart.com/economy/2024/06/09/report-10000-california-fast-food-jobs-cut-due-to-20-minimum-wage/).
Officials call the massive job loss “unintended consequences.”
I wonder how unintended they were. How wooden-headed do you have to be, not to have realized this would happen?
Robbie Update: It doesn’t look good, we can’t tempt her to eat. Mostly she sleeps. We don’t know what else we woulda-coulda-shoulda done. Nothing left to do now but pray.
That is disappointing, but we know it is bound to happen to all, both humans and animal at some time. I pray for her and both of you. I know this is hard. My granddaughter just lost
her long-time doggie friend and it is hurting her.
We’re still grieving Peep… and I find myself badly missing Buster, who died 18 years ago.
When an animal stops eating it is a bad sign. Prayers for Robbie to snap out of it and eat up a storm and live another year.
Prayer is all we’ve got left.
Most of my family has died; the ones who are still here have all moved very far away. Gets kind of lonely.
You remain in my prayers, Lee.
A number of years ago, they raised minimum wage in this state and many restaurants in smaller towns closed shop. The “poorly paid” wait-staff were people we knew, and most of the regulars were generous with their tips. These were people we saw at the grocery store, or somewhere around town; friends and neighbors. Now, instead of having jobs, their workplaces are gone. Two restaurants in a nearby town have burned down and another was torn down to build a new fast food restaurant. There are a couple of sit-down restaurants, but the prices are high and the service is poor at one of them.
When I visit Tucson, I grab some take out. It amazes me that they expect a tip for take out, when all they did was answer the phone, ring up your purchase and hand you a bag with the order the kitchen prepared.
One suspects they’re trying to abolish entry-level jobs.
