Sports? Do I Like Sports?

Sunday afternoon, in the summer. That used to mean a baseball game on TV. We loved our Yankees! And when baseball season was over, there were football and basketball and a couple of others to tide us over to spring training.

Why don’t I watch sports anymore? Why do I not even like sports anymore?

In no particular order, here are some factors: thuggery, on and off the field; pro sports franchises preaching and abetting Wokeism; mining the fans for every penny they can get; it looks and sounds stupid; exalting athletes who aren’t really all that good; sports leagues and teams hopping on every bandwagon that passes by; drugs; political manipulation (like, say, the Olympics) of defenseless nincompoops; lots and lots and lots of cheating–

Well, you get the idea.

Willie Mays, I miss you! Phil Rizzuto and Bill White, Tom Seaver and Tim McCarver, I miss you! Yes, for most of my life, I loved baseball. The other sports were mostly filler; in our house, we loved baseball.

There’s just nothing to love about it anymore.

  1. It’s not sports anymore; it’s simply become exploitation. I’m not saying that it was flawless in the past, because it wasn’t, but it’s become unconscionable in our day. The prices are insane, and concession prices are even worse.

    1. I do remember when the seats at Yankee Stadium, which we paid $25 for, shot up to $250.
But the Yankees weren’t ten times better.
