The Lion Roars–For Us?

Here we are at the Lincoln Park Zoo. The King of Beasts mounts his rock throne and roars–at whom? Why? And the crowd of humans applauds vigorously. As if that were what he’d been waiting for, the lion stops roaring and settles down. He’s said his piece.

What’s it like to hear that roar out in the open, with nothing between you and it but a canvas tent?

In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight…

He doesn’t sound sleepy to me, bwana.

  1. Our River Valley Christian Elders group has a banner with a lion on it. The U of Arkansas in our town (of which I am an alumni) are the Lions. And as a child Christ’s I am from the tribe of Judah, the Lion – yea & yozzer.

  2. I don’t think I would care to encounter one. I did come very near to a bear once when I was bird hunting with my husband and another guy, walking across a grassy area and the bear showed up, but thankfully, when it saw me, it turned and ran into the woods.
