Bradford Blackmon
This state senator doesn’t look like an idiot, but you never can tell.
Mississippi State Sen. Bradford Blackmon has proposed a bill to criminalize all sexual activity without the intent to fertilize” (https://www.perigon.io/news/politics/2025/01/22/mississippi-lawmaker-introduces-contraception-begins-erection-act). Not that it’s going to pass: but if it did, then arises the question of enforcement. How would they enforce this measure? (Big, juicy fines proposed, if they can figure it out!)
Gee! I thought Democrats cheer-leaded any and all forms of sex except for actually having a baby. (Unless it’s an “anchor baby.” Gotta keep the illegal aliens happy.) Sen. Blackmon had better watch out. He could get kicked out of his party for this.
This is a strange one. I have to agree that men should be reproductively responsible, which is apparently what this politician is trying to promote, but such a measure would never be workable. To the best of my understanding, men are legally responsible to pay for the support of any child they father. Until the sexual revolution, most people took care of that responsibility by choosing a lifetime mate and living as a family. There were men out there paying support for a “love child”, but that was relatively rare, at the time.
These days, there are a lot of children being conceived and born from casual relationships and I suspect that child support payments are not always forthcoming. Years ago, I spoke to a young man in my family who was just coming of age. His parents were divorced and his father wasn’t much of a presence in his life. The young man had not been raised a Christian and had no interest in the Bible’s teachings. I was asked to provide some guidance, and did my best.
Considering that he didn’t respect scripture, I had to confine my comments to the practical, and I simply explained that sexual activity can have very long term effects on a person’s life. A one time, casual encounter could produce a child who will be part of your life for the rest of your life. There are also diseases which can affect one’s life forever. Apparently, he took some of that to heart, because he has led an orderly life. Hopefully my words helped.
At heart, the rules of conduct taught in scripture are for our own good. If people lived by those rules, we wouldn’t have many of the social problems which exist in our day. I’m fortunate to have been raised in a home with two loving parents who also loved each other. This used to be the norm, but these days, it is far less common.
The senator is right that men need to take responsibility, but an unenforceable law does nothing to help. It is much preferable to live moral, orderly lives, and avoid the issues caused by immortality.
Ah, the sexual revolution! We do excel at harming ourselves.
The sexual revolution did a lot of harm. I’ve personally known several people whose lives were damaged, and possibly shortened because of the sexual climate of our day. One young woman was a victim of sexual abuse as a child, and ended up caught in the web of immortality. She broke free and turned her life around, becoming an exemplary person, but the long term damage to her psyche required that she take several medications, and an adverse reaction to the medications ended her life. At heart, she was a fabulous person, but her early experiences and the exploitation she experienced left terrible emotional scars which never healed.
I’ve known former coworkers who openly cheated on their wives, and saw the effects this had on not only themselves, but their families. These people felt liberated by their practices, but in every case, they were miserable people who were unpleasant to be around.
Sin does not bring happiness.
I knew a marriage which featured the wife stabbing the husband’s clothes. The root causes need hardly be mentioned by me.
The bond between a man and a woman is incredibly strong. If someone sabotages their marriage, the results can be quite unpredictable. Truly good marriages are rare, these days, but they are extremely valuable.
I don’t think the marriage I’m referring to ever got lift-off.
Most likely not. I hear news stories about various crimes, and I’m amazed by what happens in some marriages. Humanity is in some real trouble.
We always have been in trouble. It’s Original Sin. Only Jesus Christ can cure it.
How did this man ever get elected as a senator? He is an embarrassment to the people he is supposed to represent.
