Dogs Just Wanna Have Fun

So you thought only cats did this goofy stuff with paper bags? Mais non, mon cher! (as Hercule Poirot would say). Here’s a dog who gets his jollies doing the same thing. And apparently it’s all right with the resident human. I dunno. My mother would’ve pitched a fit…

  1. Our Irish Setter, Molly, back in the states, had fun with paper one morning. Early Sunday morning we were heading to church, and would be back in about two hours. So, to get a start on dinner we took a roast from the freezer and set it on the kitchen counter to thaw, placed it way in the back. The dog would have had to jump on the counter to get it, besides, it was frozen solid, so it was safe.

When we returned, we noticed a few small pieces of white paper scattered on the kitchen floor. Yeah, the dog must have chewed up a piece of paper, we thought. Sue turned on the oven, and I went over to see if I could remove the butcher paper from the roast; it was gone! She had consumed it all, not a piece left, the string it was tied with, and most of the paper. And for dessert, she ate a stick of butter we had left on the counter.

    1. Some dogs just can’t be trusted to be left alone. And some cats, too. I once lived in a house where the cat teamed up with the dog to open and raid the refrigerator. [He shudders.]

    1. I know exactly how you feel, Mike. My cats, my iguana (17 years old)… They are family members, and can never be forgotten.
