We’ve lost a friend.

The other day I realized we hadn’t heard from Erlene in a while.  I went to her Facebook page and there was a message there from a friend of hers telling her to enjoy heaven and rest in peace.  I was really shocked–I had known she had not been too well for awhile, but was not aware she was that ill.  I tried to contact her family, but that was not doable  and I could not find a telephone number.

So, if anyone wants to send a condolence card, here is the address I had for Erlene.

As far as I can figure, she passed away around the 28th of April.

She was a great person, a dynamic individual with a strong and sure faith.  She will be missed.

  1. Sad news indeed but not unexpected. I know that she had been ill for some time and felt bad for her. While I didn’t know her personally, I knew enough about her to know that she was a very sincere, very devout person, whom sought truth. I am certain that our Creator sees such sincerity in a positive manner and will bestow His blessings and rewards accordingly.

In John 16:33 Jesus told His disciples: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Some translations use the words “conquered” or “defeated” in place of “overcome”.

When I was a young man, and trying to conquer my own little world, struggling to make a living and enduring the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, I didn’t really get the import of this verse. To me, conquering meant getting ahead, and advancing my career, but as the years added up, and I lost friends and relatives to death, this verse began to make much more sense. The only accomplishments of this life which have any lasting value are our faith and good works. Material possessions, career accomplishments and all of the other aspects of life pale in comparison to our track record of faithfulness. Jesus conquered, because He remained faithful to the end.

So a fine person like Erlene truly has riches beyond measure. She has a track record and faith. Our salvation is predicated upon our faith in Christ, and our good works stand as evidence that we are living by our faith. I believe that Erlene’s track record will be justly rewarded.

I certainly will miss her here, just as a miss our dear Linda Sorci, but all of us have our hope in the future, and that is as secure for those who have passed away as it is for those of us alive on earth. Take courage, Jesus has conquered and even the last enemy, death, can not overcome us.
