First, let me say I truly detested the man’s politics.
That being said, I have to admit he created some wonderful movies, one of which is The Princess Bride, which was an all time favorite of mine and Lees. We used to watch it almost yearly. We also liked Misery (a great one) and other things he directed, wrote, or in some way was a part of. He was a truly gifted film maker, with no axe-grinding to disturb the mood and flow of the story.
Somehow the art can transcend the politics. Lee often said about his own writing that his books were a lot smarter than he was.
Right now, it is rumored that Reiner and his wife were killed by their son, Nick, who has fought drug use and homelessness.
That makes the tragedy even worse.
I had no love for the man’s politics either, but I would not wish murder upon anyone or delight in his passing.
Ditto for the movies he created and yes, The Princess Bride is a favorite, as is Stand By Me.
May he and his wife RIP after this awful tragedy.
That is much the way I feel. To be murdered by your own child is horrifying. And he was wise enough to keep the politics out of his movies.
When Charlie Kirk was assassinated the Left rejoiced, and when Rob Reiner and his wife Michel were stabbed to death by their son the Right mourned their death.
That is the difference,
that is the difference
Quite telling, isn’t it? As much as I’m not aligned with his views, he had admirable traits, and was quite talented.
Yes he was.
He was smart enough to keep politics out if his movies, and he seemed like he was at least an affable fellow. If his son was battling drug issues, that’s horribly sad, and tragically, a parent can end up powerless in such a situation.
Yes, I think he did that on purpose. Politically free movies, I mean.
