I had a cat who would do something similar. She wouldn’t suckle on my hand, but on blankets, and things like that. Over time, she outgrew it.
Cloth sucking is fairly common.
I always had the impression that she had been taken away from her mother, too soon.

She kneaded with her paws, almost continually. I’m pretty sure that is consistent with being taken from their mother, too soon.
