Well, my car is back.
My wallet is somewhat lighter.
It seems that the A/C problem was due to a couple of small leaks. Not major ones, and it should be good for awhile. The mechanic did not feel a sense of urgency or impending doom about it.
The airbag was not looked into today, as the technician who handles that was not in today. However, he said I can live without it if I want to. My main fear was the darn thing deploying without warning. He said that would not happen. To tell the truth, I have been afraid of the airbag ever since I had it. I am very small and where that plastic would hit would be right across my neck. In fact when I got that car (brand new) I asked my mechanic if he could disarm the airbag. He said “Sure, if I want to lose my license and maybe go to jail.”
So I will be OK without it.
Going there did take quite a bit of time out of the day, so I will post more tomorrow.

You should be OK with the airbag. Good news about the air conditioning. Those systems should last a long time.
I must admit a great sense of relief.
Airbags have become pretty reliable, these days.
