The famed Gimli Glider incident. I can’t imagine side slipping a 767, but an airplane is an airplane and it’s a valid maneuver, whether in a glider, a small General Aviation plane or a Transport Category plane like the 76’.
Sadly, the state of aviation training is not what it used to be. When I was first learning, they taught more about basic airmanship than they do now. I wonder if this sort of thing could even happen, these days.
It is a marvelous story–the pilot was in the right place, and could do the right thing. Amazing.
