I just found out today that the man who wrote this hymn lost his four young daughters at sea. He had not been on the ship with his wife and daughters as he had some business to attend to and was joining them at a later date. His wife survived and as he was on the voyage going to join her he felt a sense of peace come over him and he wrote this hymn. I had never known the story behind the writing of this beautiful hymn before.
