‘Fairest Lord Jesus’

It’s raining gently here today, on and off, and this is the hymn that came to mind today–Fairest Lord Jesus/Beautiful Savior. I grew up thinking it was a crusaders’ hymn, because that’s what it said in our church’s hymnal; but in fact it was published in 1873.

This version is by the Oasis Chorale.

Hymn, ‘Beautiful Savior’

I’m still groggy from the allergy attack, which has abated but not let go, so I put Patty on the spot to select a hymn for this morning. I knew she’d pick this one, because I know it’s one of her favorites–Beautiful Savior, here sung by the congregation at La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, AZ, with Dr. Homer Ferguson III on the organ.

People sometimes ask why we show so many nature photographs with hymns.

Because all of Creation testifies to its Creator! Nature’s beauties are God’s witnesses. “God is nigh! God is nigh!” That’s what they want to tell us, if we did but listen.
