‘Onward, Christian Soldiers’

This classic hymn has all but disappeared from cringe-friendly churches that seek this world’s approval. But the kids at Fountainview Academy still sing it–Onward, Christian Soldiers.

‘Faith Is the Victory’

Beautiful hymn, beautiful setting, beautiful voices–Faith Is the Victory, sung by the kids at Fountainview Academy. “Faith if the victory that overcomes the world.” This is one of the few hymns they sing a cappella–glorious harmony.

By Request, ‘The Love of God’

Requested by Lydia: The Love of God, performed by the kids from Fountainview Academy on a visit to the Ford Farm in Eureka, California.

If you’re new here, we take hymn requests. If you have a favorite hymn you’d like to share, just leave a comment anywhere, and we’ll do the rest.

‘Jesus Saves’

I first heard this hymn played as background music to a Civil War re-enactment, and I remembered it. The second time was at my father’s burial service, on the bells of a nearby church. It was one of my favorites before I ever knew its name–Jesus Saves.

Here performed by the kids from Fountainview Academy during their tour of Rome.

‘God of Our Fathers’

We used to sing this hymn in assembly in high school, before the Supreme Court suddenly decided that mentioning God in a public place was against the law: God of Our Fathers, performed by the kids at Fountainview Academy.

It was better then.

By Request, ‘Create in Me a Clean Heart’

This is Psalm 51 set to music–the Psalm David wrote when he realized how grievously he’d sinned in taking Bathsheba for his wife after arranging for her husband, Uriah, to be killed in battle. We all need to prayer this prayer: “Create in me a clean heart and a right spirit.”

Requested by Erlene, sung by girls from Fountainview Academy, and filmed on Moonstone Beach, California–Create in Me a Clean Heart.

‘Faith of Our Fathers’

Believe it or not, we used to sing this hymn in high school, when we had assembly on Friday mornings. But that was before they discovered how much harm it did us.

Faith of Our Fathers, by the kids from Fountainview Academy on their tour of Italy–nad 50 years later I’m still trying to figure out just how it harmed us.

By Request, ‘Do You Know My Jesus?’

And thank you, Phoebe, for requesting this–Do You Know My Jesus?, sung by the kids from Fountainview Academy, at the Ford Farm in Eureka, California.

These last two hymns have cleansed my soul. It always gets dirty when I have to write about the colleges.

‘Blessed Assurance’ (Fountainview)

We can’t go wrong with a classic Fanny Crosby hymn, sung by the kids from Fountainview Academy: Blessed Assurance. This performance was during their tour of Italy.

I don’t have a car today, so I’ll be here all day, ready to take your hymn requests.

‘Crown Him with Many Crowns’ (Fountainview)

We last heard this hymn sung in Westminster Cathedral; now we can here it sung out outdoors, by the kids at Fountainview Academy, British Columbia: Crown Him with Many Crowns.

If you’re new to this blog, know ye that we take hymn requests, as many as our readers care to make. If you’ve got one, let us know.
