‘Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken’

Can’t lock down God’s spirit!

Let’s start the day with a hymn–Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken, written by John Newton, who also wrote Amazing Grace. For most of his life he made his living in the slave trade; but after he became a serious Christian, he spent the rest of his life working for the abolition of slavery.

Sung by the Greene Mountain Men’s Choir.

‘Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken’

The Greene Mountain Men’s Choir sings Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken, with background sets by God the Father, maker of heaven and earth.

In my church’s hymnal, these words were sung to a melody which many of us know as the German national anthem, Deutschland Uber Alles. I have opted for this melody instead.

‘Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken’

The congregation at the church I grew up in used to really belt out this hymn, Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken. We made the rafters ring. The kids from Fountainview Academy, perhaps with an eye to the stability of their own rafters, sing this hymn outdoors.
