Last year’s summer movie flops–this year’s won’t be any better.
I watch a lot of movies. You might call them “old movies.” Descriptions of Hollywood’s current product almost always turn me off.
But I’m not the only one!
A Rasmussen poll asked some 1,200 people if they thought movies today are as good as they were ten, 20, or even 50 years ago; and the answer, by a 2-1 margin, was a resounding “NO” (https://www.breitbart.com/entertainment/2024/04/03/nolte-exclusive-by-2-to-1-americans-believe-movies-are-worse-today/).
Hollywood knows this, and frantically seeks an explanation other than “Your steady stream of Woke flops has alienated your fan base.” No one will say that. Blame it on streaming, blame it on COVID, blame it on Climbit Change. Blame it on the Bossa Nova.
“Are movies better than they were ten years ago?” 58% NO.
Even Hollywood’s favorite target audiences are turning away. “Are movies better than they were 20 years ago?” Women, 56% NO. Blacks, 54% NO. Young people (18-39 years old), 53% NO.
Today’s movies are almost as unpopular as EV cars. Government wants to force EVs down our throats. Betcha they can’t do it with these movies. You can’t sell road-kill as haute cuisine. But hey, when you’re going for Fundamental Transformation, you keep pushing it no matter how often or how badly you fail.
We can only hope that someday movies will be made by people who aren’t left-wing idiots. Meanwhile, they can take their $10 tickets and sit on them. And that’s without popcorn.
