My Brother-in-Law Has Died

The Lord did not see fit to grant our prayers for him: Ray, my brother-in-law, has died. We just got the phone call a few minutes ago.  He died in hospice after a very long illness. It would be improper for me to say more.

We prayed very hard for him. I know some of you did. Thank you.

I don’t know why God said no. I can only trust in His wisdom and His love.

  1. My condolences to you and yours. In this fallen world, this happens far too often. In the Restitution of all Things he will have blessings untold, and a reunion with his loved ones. Your prayers will not be forgotten.

  2. Lee and Patty, I’m so very sorry. It’s a difficult thing to lose someone we love. You remain in my prayers. We can’t know the Mind of God, but we can know He hears our prayers. Sometimes the answer isn’t the one we want, but it’s the best one. Only He knows why. Maybe He spared Ray something unforeseen. For now we look forward to the jubilant family gatherings that await us.

  3. May the all wide, all knowing, all loving God, our Father console all who are grieving. May peace surround you as a comforting blanket while healing takes place. I pray for your grief to pass quickly, in Jesus’ holy name.

    1. I can relate to that, Lee. I’m in the same boat. I have a handful of living relatives, most of whom I am not particularly close to. We all need the Kingdom of God.

  4. I am so sorry for your loss, Lee. May God comfort you and your loved ones as you mourn your uncle. Praying for you.

  5. Oh, Lee, I’m so sorry you’re going through such grief and loss. I’m keeping you and Patty in my prayers, and of course I’m praying for the repose of the soul of Ray. We never know why the Lord chooses to take our loved ones when He does, but our consolation is the hope we have of those loved ones being happy forever in Heaven, and of our being reunited with them one day in God’s love.

I, too, have almost no family left (just two cousins and a second cousin now, and all in different parts of the country) so I know the feeling of … I guess we can call it shrinkage. But we always have Christ. And in Christ we have the “cloud of witnesses” who have gone before us. Rest in His love, Lee. He will wipe away every tear.

    1. Thanks, Phoebe. I wish I could say more, but I suppose I can’t.
Thank you for reminding me about the cloud of witnesses.
Ray was the last of Patty’s blood relatives, and the two of them were very close. And he was a good friend to me.

  6. I’m so sorry Lee! I will be praying for you and your family. It’s so hard for us when the people we love get called home, even when we know there is no better place they can be than with Jesus. Please give Patty my most heartfelt sympathies.

  7. My heart felt condolences go out to you and your loved ones. When I arrived home today from subbing I found out our beloved church member who recently turned 90 has passed away. I am now going through my sympathy cards. At my age, I keep a good supply of them.
