Walking by faith and not by sight isn’t easy. These days, pessimism about the future seems to come natural–at least to me. Heck, I just wrote about some “famous” person teaching small children that abortion is “part of God’s plan.”
Chalcedon President Mark Rushdoony has addressed the problem of pessimism: his words are a much-appreciated tonic.

Yes, I am VERY pessimistic about the future. I do not see all that I knew as good and true rising once more in the culture. I’m glad I have no grandchildren and that at my age I probably won’t see the outcome of the present age.
All we can do is “Occupy until I come.” And when He comes, He’ll sort it out.
In the short run things will most likely get worse, but in the long run God has called us to victory: “The knowledge of the LORD will cover the earth as the water covers the seas,” “When God’s judgments are in the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.” Stay in the Word every day to overcome despair and pessimism.
Eschatology has been part of my life from some of my earliest memories. At one point, I came to the conclusion it was all talk and quit expecting anything. Then, I abandoned Replacement Theology and looked at prophecies about Israel as being literal. At that point, my entire perspective changed, because I saw the bible as one coherent theme. None of us knows the day and the hour, but the events in the bible, and the events in our day, give us reassurance that God’s purpose to redeem mankind is on track. It will happen in His time, and that is the ultimate source of optimism.
