Can I Make It to Midnight?

Gone are those New Year’s Eves of yesteryear, where we used to run outside and bellow “Happy New Year!” at the top of our lungs, plus booze, fireworks, and the rest. Now I’ve got 45 minutes to go and I’d rather be in bed. Patty has already fallen asleep on the couch. Our cats are sleeping, too.

A prayer: O Lord our God, we are the sheep of your pasture, and we need our shepherd. Stay with us throughout the year 2020: equip us for your service, give us what we need to hang on. May the name of our Savior Jesus Christ be exalted, this year, in every corner of the earth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. Amen to your prayer. I made no attempt to stay up until midnight. I have been through too many new years. Every time I look at or think of the number of this year (2020) I think, may this be symbolic of clear vision, but may it be spiritual vision. Ability to read the signs of the times and look forward to the return of our Lord.

  2. I made it easily, always do. Something about seeing the ball drop in NYC and then their playing Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.” No way did I watch CNN’s coverage of it.

  3. I’m with you brother but this year, with my elderly parents and family, I was compelled to stay up until at least 12:05! 🎉
May the Lord bless us all, order our steps thru 2020 and reveal Himself in greater measure.
    Press on brother!

  4. I am an incurable night owl. I am rarely in bed by midnight, so staying up late enough to ring in the new year is not difficult. Sad thing is, even then, my 9 yr old often outlasts me. 🙂 Wishing you and all your readers blessings for 2020!
