More Unusual Pets

I don’t know–maybe for some of you, having a couple of bears for pets might not be unusual. Ditto the skateboarding dog. And that little striped thing, I think, is a baby peccary. I have heard that these close relatives of the pig generally grow up to be fierce and unpredictable. I think you’re better off with giant millipedes.

  1. Those were pretty cute. I thought the dog afraid of the bridge was quite funny. That was definitely a peccary. I see them near my workplace frequently, during the day. The very young ones are cute as heck. They are nothing I’d care to befriend, but I’ve gotten a closeup look at them on a few occasions and there is a strange beauty and majesty to them, as a species.

They seem to live in small groups, perhaps extended families. There will be one boar that gets his way all the time and a number of sows and occasionally smaller boars. The young’uns are watched closely.

    1. Ewww yuck! Sounds creepy. Ever dealt with a house invested with crock roaches though? That’s the worse thing on earth!! I could go crazy, but I’m keeping myself cool right now.

    2. It sort of grabbed my ankle when I was walking past. It was dark, and I didn’t even know it was there. I turned on the light and it tried to hide. I don’t remember how I got it outside, but somehow I caught it and transported it back where it belonged.

Cockroaches are the worst, although bedbugs can be nasty. There was a bedbug infestation near where I used to work and they warned us that they can migrate home with you. Fortunately, it didn’t happen, but I was quite concerned. A coworker had to use steam to clear them from his house. They can’t handle heat.

    3. Ummm sorry, but you just freaked me out! Don’t keep talking about it!!!!!

Ugh that’s horrid nasty! I’m not lying… my little sister just yelled out “There’s a cockroach in the bathroom! KILL IT!”

    4. Lizards are friendly creatures. We have lizards all over the place in these parts and they really don’t cause any problems. They will crawl up on a rock in plain view and do pushups, apparently to gain the admiration of other lizards. Where I work a couple of the conference rooms have windows which face a desert garden, of sorts, so we see Javelina, lizards, quail, roadrunners and the occasional snake during meetings.

    5. Yuck, I stepped on one this morning when I went for a walk. That’s what they get when they scare me! After all, aren’t lizards just baby dinosaurs?

    6. They’re very nice; but because they mostly eat vast quantities of ants, and require fine-tuned climate control, they’re very difficult to keep as pets.

    7. Ok, so I got home from work and ran inside to ask if the book came in. My mom said she got home late for forgot to check, so I whizzed outside in the pitch blackness a 1/4 mile to the mailbox………. I felt inside and and I HOPED soooo hard the package I felt was “it”
I RAN inside faster than I’ve ever ran and sure enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY BOOK IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!! Thank you sooooooooooo much! I’m sure I’ll read it all tonight! 🙂 🙂

  2. Living in Arizona includes a lot of interesting wildlife, including insects that are not to be believed. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen an Arizona Coral Snake. It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.

    1. Better go find a coral snake to look at, just to be safe. 🙂 The Arizona subspecies is especially colorful. The yellow bands on the one I saw were amazing.

    2. I don’t know about that. I do want to visit Arizona someday.
I just googled it and saw pics – good enough.
South Carolina has some cute snakes too! 😉

  3. Arizona Coral Snakes are not aggressive and, to the best of my knowledge, no one has ever been killed by an Arizona Coral Snake. Nonetheless, I keep my distance. I don’t want to break any new historical ground with regard to the AZ. Coral Snake.
