Don’t Eat This Stuff

My wife, who is fascinated by such things, has been watching videos of some of the more dangerous types of food poisoning. No, I’m not going to link to any of them. Just listening from elsewhere in the room made me feel kind of oogy, and I’d rather not pass that on to any of you.

Nevertheless, I’ve picked up a few helpful hints which I will pass on.

*Pasta with sauce that’s been lying around for five days or so–please don’t eat that. A guy on one of the videos did just that, and it killed him.

*”Eating around” the moldy spots in bread, or the rotten spots in apples, is not safe.

*”Gas station sushi”–uh-uh.

*”Gas station anything,” including hot dogs–steer clear.

*Plucking food out of a dumpster, that someone else has thrown away, and you collect it because it’s cool to eat for free and maybe you’re Saving The Planet while you’re at it–what are you, crazy? People actually do this? And not because they’re starving, either.

I had no idea there were so many painful and long, drawn-out ways of committing culinary suicide. And so many people willing to try them. To what extent have they been inspired by really stupid videos they’ve seen on social media?

One is left very nearly speechless.

  1. Good advice. I hope I never get that hungry. Which reminds me – I have 6 day old spaghetti with sauce in the fridge. If you don’t hear from me after this, just write me off as stupid.

    1. OMGosh!! Hey, i’m not that stupid yet because i’m still alive – i’m a deplorable.

  2. Ehhhh good grief. Be glad you didn’t link to those videos. I wouldn’t have been able to live through it.

Gas station sushi???? What? Never knew there was such a thing. Sounds fake to me.
Gas station hotdogs? Hehe my dad won’t listen to that one! That’s him everyday!
    Overall, that is disgusting!

    1. You’d think cooking something thoroughly would take care of any germs or worms. But then leaving it lying around for days on end allows new germs to colonize it.

    2. Yep! I’ve been through food poisoning and lived through 3 parasites this past summer/fall.
Food poisoning was caused by me eating soup with chicken in it that had been left out 18 hours sitting.
Parasites were from New Orleans. I ate fish that HAD worms in it before cooking. Yeah right. 3 worms in me…. ugh. I got rid of them without dying!

    3. I got poisoned at a high-class restaurant in Charleston, SC–a very bad ending to a short vacation. Actually, that restaurant had really gone downhill in just a single year. I was probably lucky they didn’t kill me.

P.S.–A lot of fish have worms. Especially cod.
But leaving soup out to sit for 18 hours–uh-uh, not good!

    4. Ugh. Making Charleston look bad. I spent all morning there today!

Hey! I wasn’t the one that left it out!!! And I had NO idea it had been left out either.

  3. Watching Chubby Emu, huh? How about the lady who drank a bunch of soy sauce? I don’t understand our modern-day people! Seem to have no sense anymore.

  4. Burger King is running a commercial now about how they are removing all artificial ingredients from their hamburgers. In the commercial they show a Whopper with artificial ingredients after sitting around for some time with mold growing on it – I kid you not. What were the makers of this commercial smoking?
