My fellow Americans! I–
Oops, wrong speech–sorry about that. [Shuffles papers] Ah, here’s the one I wanted…
With only just about a week to go till Christmas, our annual Christmas Carol Contest features two carols in a tie. I’m not going to tell you which two, because I don’t want to say anything that might influence you one way or another.
But I can tell you, with a heavy heart [Sighs], that so far not one of the nominated carols has received 30 views on the day it was proposed. Maybe there aren’t as many readers here as there used to be. The contest is open to all. You can enter every day, nominate as many carols as you please. It doesn’t matter if you’re a first-time visitor, or a reader who just never comments. Get into the contest! After all, you might win.
Our prizes, of course, are legendary and need no promotion here. Suffice it to say that if they could’ve gotten their hands on some of these prizes, Jason and the Argonauts would’ve saved themselves a trip.
I have a question (or two) and a suggestion.
First, the question(s): By “views,” do you mean views of the video itself, or of the post containing the video? If the latter, wouldn’t the tally be skewed if a conversation got started in the comments and people kept coming back to comment but not to watch the video again? Also, does the view counter note whether someone has watched all the way through or only partially, and if the latter, does that count as a “view” or not?
Second, the suggestion: Maybe for the next contest (Easter coming up) or even for this one if you can get the stats retrospectively, could we go from “view the same day” to total views? Some of these carols have been so beautiful that I’ve wanted to go back and listen again, but I’m too busy to do it the same day, and besides, the urge may come over me to listen again a day (or week) or so later. And there have been some days when I’ve been too busy to listen at all and I have to go back and listen the next morning. I know doing total views might give an advantage to the earliest requests, but … well, see the parable about the workers hired at different times during the day, only in reverse. 🙂 (Just half-kidding here.)
I can’t go changing the rules halfway through the contest, but “total views” is a very good idea and I’ll adopt it for the next contest (thanks for the suggestion {why didn’t I think of that?}).
Been away on vacation last week slowly catching up and hpe that explains why I was away!
You did keep posting likes, so I thought you were here. Did you have a nice vacation?
Yes a nice vacation; Lord willing I move out of my liberal state
Hint: Avoid Blue states.
Yep!
