Our cat Henry used to sit right by the game board, on the table, while I played Strat-O-Matic baseball. He wanted the little plastic baserunners, and he’d snatch them up and run away if I didn’t watch out. The real fun came when I had to get up for some reason. I would admonish him to leave the little plastic men alone, and he would argue with me, word for word. He was a born debater. The cats in this video try, but they can’t match our Henry.
I love talking cats. It’s one of my favorite things, and the main reason that I have a Siamese. Siamese are sort of a two-fer, because they talk more than any other breed (that I am aware of) and they have two distinct voices: normal cat voice, and Siamese voice. My cat usually speaks in normal cat voice, and rarely uses her Siamese voice. I had one Siamese that would make the most horrible sound imaginable, pretty much every night, speaking in her Siamese voice, for just a few seconds. She was a small cat, but she sounded big when she did that.
I definitely hear some complaining and back-talk from my cat. She lets me know when my opinions are inadequate. She also lets me know if I disturb her, by giving her a quick pet. If she’s asleep, or even just in deep reverie, she’ll give me a short signal, which I don’t know whether it’s annoyance, or appreciation. I think it’s appreciation, but I’m not sure.

It would be fascinating to know what cats are actually thinking. They obviously are thinking something, and they aren’t afraid to speak their mind, especially if they are letting you know that they are disappointed by something. Perhaps I am biased, in the matter, but felines strike me as being uniquely fascinating creatures. They seem to occupy a special place in creation.
Likewise, dogs are very special, as well. The other day, I was riding my bike and there was a fellow coming down the road in the opposite direction, walking a small dog. That dog was so happy to meet someone new, that he was all but wriggling out of his skin.
Both species were a special gift from God.
