Honest, this is one of the funniest videos I’ve ever seen. I don’t know if it was staged or not–but how do you get a squirrel to play his part in a staged video?
Well, keep your airplanes under lock and key, boys ‘n ‘ girls. A squirrel just might steal one and take off on a joyride.

That never happens in these parts, because all we have here are ground squirrels. 🙂
I’m puzzled by how they did that. The squirrel jumping into the airplane appears to be real. I suspect that the flying scenes are faked. My guess is that a squirrel would have jumped out as soon as they activated the electric motor.
In any event, it was a cute video.
The plane was surely under remote-control.
Undoubtedly. The demonstration of the internal controls was bogus, too. It might be possible to install and rig a miniature control set in a model airplane, but that would be an incredibly fiddly task and have zero purpose. Besides that, the installation and rigging of the servos for radio control would have to take precedence, so no, there wasn’t a tiny stick and rudder pedals in that plane.
I’m licensed to fly real aircraft, and I can tell you that RC planes are tricky. They are hyper responsive and things happen very rapidly on RC planes. I’m out of practice, but I am much more confident of my ability to successfully fly a real plane than I would be of may ability to fly an RC plane.
*Sigh* I wanted it to be real. But of course it isn’t.
There was a guy flying a helicopter over my neighborhood a while back that obviously had the brains of a squirrel.
