Sometimes children are the same way. Especially with big cardboard boxes. My wife’s niece liked the gift that came in a large cardboard box. But liked the cardboard house I made from that box, with doors and windows that opened and closed even better to play with.
They make good tanks, too: get inside and crawl.
Cats just love cardboard, for some reason or another.
