Bob Costas at 71–he really is a life saver.
[A tiny bit of good news, before we get to the bad.]
It’s not every day you get a chance, literally, to save a life.
Remember Bob Costas? Game of the Week, special sporting events, tennis opens–he was one of our premier sportscasters. Now 71 (younger than me! Aaagh!), he’s semi-retired, but still gets behind the mike now and then.
A few days ago he was dining in a restaurant when another diner, a few tables away, began to choke. Costas wasted no time: got up, performed the Heimlich maneuver, and saved the diner’s life.
Which, he said, was what anybody else would do.
That Heimlich maneuver really works. Whatever’s clogging your pipe gets shot out of there like a cannonball. I am speaking from experience.
Anyhow… Way to go, Bob!
About one year ago, we were at small resort with a number of pools. No lifeguards. Parents were supposed to watch their children. I was talking with two friends, and noticed a small girl that was underwater in one of the deep pools. I jumped over a fence, and pulled her out. No one else saw her. I didn’t have to do CPR, she was OK. Her mother just looked away for a few minutes…that’s all it took.
I don’t have to wonder how she is doing, she lives with us.
Wow, that’s awesome! God had you in the right place at the right time.
When you says she lives with you, do you mean you adopted her afterwards?
Toddlers and swimming pools, though–a bad mix.
No, we have had a number of mothers and their children stay with us over the years.
Good on Mr. Costas.
