Living in Stupidworld: New Episode

Councilman Shaun Abreu

Another goofy thing for us to “celebrate”!

Calloo, callay, O frabjous day! New York City has made it against the law, a criminal offense, to “discriminate” against anyone on the basis of height or… weight (https://nypost.com/2023/11/26/metro/nyc-law-banning-discrimination-based-on-height-weight-goes-takes-effect/).

So fat is in! Obesity joins the throng of protected classes. “Vegan” Mayor Eric Adams took time out from beating his head against the wall of the city’s illegal alien crisis to sign this booshwa into effect. He doesn’t think there’s any connection between your weight and your general state of health. Then he imposes “plant-based” dreary prison meals on New York City schoolchildren and brags about losing 35 pounds. The guy is all over the place.

Now they’re hinting that if you go to, say, a community college and you’re too fat to fit behind any of the desks… whee-ha! You can sue the school! And the school can rush out and buy a couple hundred XXXL desks, just to accommodate you. Who knows? The next person through the door might be too tall for the desks they have. Better buy a few hundred more.

Why is it like we’re governed by escaped mental patients? Oops! Betcha I broke a “law” there, saying that. Let me rephrase it: “governed by babbling kooks.”

Can we afford their vision of Utopia? Where no one, ever–except for Christians, white men who like women, conservatives, and people who eat meat–will feel the desperate wretchedness of not getting what they want. We’re gonna need more lawyers to handle all the lawsuits. “Just because I’m four-foot-nine, they won’t let me play pro basketball!” “I can’t fit into this car! Recall 30 million of ’em and redesign ’em Plus-Size!”

According to the Center for Disease Control–an agency of the federal government, but we’re going to listen to it anyway–42 percent of Americans are “obese.” (We are not sure how they define the term.)

But it can’t have any effect on your health. Just ask the mayor.

  1. Obesity is a disease, and requires treatment and understanding, but that is not to suggest that we can ignore the health effects. A person at twice their ideal weight is unlikely to be able to maintain good health. Understanding and compassion are one thing, but “celebrating” obesity makes little sense to me. If someone needs help, I’m all for helping them, but if a 400 pound person can’t function that isn’t the fault of the environment.

When I was in high school, out of 1,500 students, perhaps 2 were morbidly obese. A few years back, my commute took me past a high school and I saw any number of morbidly obese students, when I would drive past. Something is seriously wrong, here. I suspect that our highly processed diet is at fault. The amount of carbohydrates in our diet is off scale. It’s sad.

    1. When I was a boy, kids played all the time, every chance we got, and usually outdoors with lots of running and jumping involved. I DON’T SEE THAT HAPPENING ANYMORE. All the kids in my neighborhood are kept locked up, you never see them playing.
So of course they’re gonna be fat!

    2. That’s a good point. I rarely see younger people when I take a bike ride, but see a number of people in their 50s or 60s. I can only recall seeing kids playing outdoors at one house, and my impression is that this family does an exceptional job of providing a positive environment for their children, because I often see the whole family outside, with the parents interacting with their children, but that is the exception.

    3. I know. It’s sad and it’s not simply a matter of poor eating habits. Our food supply has changed and I think that’s a big factor. But, I don’t see it as something to celebrate.

  2. This is a sad state of affairs, and I see people in this condition all the time, both on screen and off screen. It is nothing to celebrate, for sure. I do think the “doctored up” food supply is largely responsible, but people have to take responsibility as well. They won’t, though if
they are condoned and celebrated in their condition.

  3. Here in the Philippines there are few fat people. And very few morbidly obese people. There are almost no fat children. And I don’t think I have seen any morbidly obese children. As some commented, yes, the food supply is largely responsible. And the “junk” food so many eat is the cause.

    1. But lack of exercise is in it, too. When my friends and I played ball, we played all day. Now they play for an hour or two on weekends–if at all. And they won’t stir without a coach, uniforms, parents in the bleachers, etc., etc.
