A Thracian warrior

[If you’re wondering why I’m running so late today, it’s because my computer has balked me every step of the way. I think it must be a Thracian computer, pursuing its own extinction.]

Once upon a time, Thrace was a wealthy and populous nation. Every great power had Thracians in its army–Greeks, Macedonians, Persians, Romans. The most famous Thracian was Spartacus, leader of a massive slave revolt that nearly toppled Rome.

Today–no more.

Where are the Thracians?

That such a prominent and considerable nation should just fade out of history is a sobering thing to contemplate. It’s like the world woke up one morning and found no trace of Thrace. Bed slept in, covers thrown back… but no one saw or heard anything.

Warning: If it can happen to them, it can happen to us.

  1. It should be a warning to every nation remaining. If it happened to them, it could happen to anyone.
