Would this nice old lady have anyone bumped off?
Once upon a time some people believed that Queen Elizabeth II (God rest her soul) looked into the video camera and a) confessed her government had Princess Diana rubbed out and b) said “I hope you enjoy your final Christmas.”
And of course, of course!–supposedly the video was pulled in a hurry and most people never saw it… yeah, yeah, and so on.
Why does anyone believe stuff like that? Is it just their way of making life more interesting?
Well, what’s the point of having a royal family if you can’t shower rumors on them?
Somehow, I cannot reconcile Queen Elizabeth with such an action. Why do people always want to improve upon the facts?
People love to tear down those “above” them. 😢
Plutarch had a lot to say about that.
Considering the conduct of many other members of the British Royal Family, Elizabeth stood out as exemplary in conduct. But, if I look at the Royal Family, I see very human people, with very human flaws.
Prince Andrew’s scandals are no worse than those of a deceased cousin, but my cousin wasn’t a household name, so only those in the family so much as noticed. When Diana married Charles, suddenly the press had a very attractive and camera friendly face to make the subject of their respective publications, and we heard about every detail of their lives which were observable to the press. Who would want to live in such a fishbowl?
What I do not understand is Harry, who stepped down from being a working Royal, has made hurtful comments about the rest of his family, and still: wants to be treated like royalty, seeks publicity, complains about his lack of privacy, and tries to pedal his fame to anyone willing to fork over some money.
My personal opinion is that he had a miserable upbringing, mostly because of living in the Royal Fishbowl, and may lack in some areas of personal development. Many have opined that he is not very bright, and I think I see their point.
Perhaps he could benefit from the example of his aunt, Princess Anne. She is known for speaking her mind, and she was never one to be pushed around by the press, but she managed to handle life in the fishbowl better than many others, and perhaps her greatest success is that she keeps a fairly low profile, and doesn’t make herself all that interesting to the press.
Anne comes across as quite normal, and if one happened to help pull her car out of a mud hole, they would probably be treated with respect and dignity. That was something her mother did quite well; she treated the common folk with respect for them, as humans.
I’m not a Royalist, by any means, nor do I have any practical interest in the British Royal Family, but I would still treat them respectfully, were I ever to be in their proximity; with the exception of Harry. If Harry’s car gets stuck in a mud hole, he’s on his own. 🙂
I just don’t get the British royal family. Neither did George Washington.
They are far less powerful in our day, than in Washington’s.
