What tells a cat that he can face down a bear and get away with it? Why does a bear let him do it? We are very, very far from understanding animal psychology–and that’s just our fellow mammals.

I have a request for tomorrow: Draw Me Nearer. There are several versions for you to choose from.
Oh, yes, that’s a nice one–will do.
I know cats do some strange things, but I never would have dreamed one would try to get the better of a big bear!
It amazes me that a cat can intimidate a bear. I know that the deer in my neighborhood are very wary of my little cat, who is less than 1/20 of an adult deer’s weight.
I guess a predator’s a predator. I wonder if they’re afraid of praying mantises.
Even I am afraid of praying mantises. One of those things gets ahold of you and it’s curtains. 🙂
Actually, I love those beautiful little creatures. It’s not uncommon to find one on my front porch, about this time of year. I always see them as friends, and a source of beauty.
When the local deer are foraging in my back yard, my cat will jump up on the window sill and she trembles with excitement. The deer watch her every move, and if she does something suddenly, they will jump back.
Our cats never paid attention to any of the few deer who visited us.
My cat is quite excitable, even in comparison to other cats. Nothing escapes her attention. If it moves, it’s hers to stalk. 🙂
