I had to go to the hospital this morning, and then I have to go again this afternoon. If I was a dog they’d put me down.
It’s only a blood test and a cat scan, but I’ve been up to my neck in this stuff since last June and it’s wearing me out.
Meanwhile, as peace talks loom, Russia and Ukraine are belting each other with drones. Why does that remind me of The Terminator? Remember that scene of the robots crushing heaped-up human skulls? I mean, come on, is this any way to bring in peace talks?
Are we going to give up killing each other like civilized people and leave it all up to robots? Is that what passes for “progress” in a fallen world?
Let’s see if we can find a hymn to lift our spirits. Well, mine at least.
Alas, war is the natural state of fallen mankind. True peace comes rarely and is usually instituted only with the threat of force. (I’m speaking of societies, you understand, not of individuals, although individuals also have to war against their own fallen impulses.)
It’s ironic, but the most fierce fighting frequently happens during calls for a ceasefire. Both sides are looking to maximize any advantage, while they are free to do so. I have no idea where this will end up. I can’t feel much sympathy for an invasion, and especially so when there have been deliberate efforts to kill civilians, but neither side are on my list of good guys. Ukraine has earned a reputation for massive corruption, to the point than many companies block all Internet traffic originating from the Ukraine, along with: Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea.
I would hope that Ukraine recovers lost territory, but I doubt that will happen. At the end of the day, Russia will probably come out better than the Ukraine … but look at the cost in human lives, in destruction and the ongoing costs of the many lives that have been disrupted with little chance of things ever being the same again.
The sad thing is, the citizens of these countries may not be even slightly aggressive towards the other side of the conflict. I’m no expert on Russia, but from what I understand, the average Russian doesn’t hate the West, nor do they wish evil upon their neighbors. Russia is a vast nation, difficult to defend, and desires buffer zones, such as the Soviet satellite nations of the Cold War period. There is no permanent answer, until our Lord returns and shepherds all nations.
In the meantime, i am thankful for the efforts to conclude this conflict and pray accordingly. I would hat to think of this becoming a broader conflict.
I’ve only just come back from the hospital, may have to wait till tomorrow to reply.
