Beware! Here Come Killer Robots! REPRINT

From May 29, 2015

A computer science professor at Berkeley has warned that “research” by the Defense Dept. (B. Hussein Obama, proprietor) could create “drones which can track and kill targets even when out of contact with their handlers…. the research could breach the Geneva Convention and leave humanity in the hands of amoral machines” ( http://godfatherpolitics.com/22681/killer-robots-will-destroy-us-scientist-warns/ ).

How much worse is that than being at the mercy of immoral and wicked human beings?

I believe Professor Stuart Russell means well, and that he’s trying to warn us against what he sees as a very real danger. He may even be right. Who knows what the DOD lab-rats get up to, behind closed doors?

Naturally, this conjures up visions of The Terminator and other robot menaces. Oh, dear–another thing to worry about! Aaagh, we’re all gonna die! From Global Warming… or Income Inequality, or Homophobia, or Too Much Red Meat in Our Diet and Not Enough Tofu… or the ocean is going to dry up, or else flood over all our coastal cities.. from overpopulation, underpopulation, or simply not enough Trans People to go around. From whatever.

See what terrors you get into, when you don’t believe in God.

If your god is such a patzer that he can’t protect his own creation from little ants and fleas like us, then your god is not God. If your god sent his only son to earth to redeem the human race, and it didn’t work because the human race totally destroyed itself, then your god is not God and your savior is not Jesus Christ.

Wise up, O men of God.

The Tech Fair Horror! Robot Attacks, Injures Man

Robots v Humans: AI machine ‘attacks’ visitor at Chinese tech fair (PHOTOS)

From November 15, 2019

Oh, we shoulda listened to Isaac Asimov! Instead, it’s going all Terminator on us.

At the China International Hi-Tech Fair recently, a robot that was supposed to be an “educational tool” launched itself through a glass display case and made a frenzied attack on an innocent bystander, who was slightly injured (https://www.rt.com/viral/367426-robot-attack-china-technology/). We are unable to confirm reports that the robot growled “Die, human, die!”

I dunno, it doesn’t look so fierce to me. It looks kinda like R2D2 from Star Wars. Which reminds me–What does R2D2 take when he has a cold? Robotussin! But I digress.

It should be pointed out that some killjoy who doesn’t want us to have any fun with the nooze says the robot crashed through the display case because somebody mixed up the “forward” and “back” buttons, hit the one when he should’ve hit the other. We would rather read that the robot’s Artificial Intelligence took it upon itself to add a blood-lust program. “He must’ve programmed himself to do that!” Just because those immortal words originated in Godzilla vs. Megalon doesn’t mean they aren’t true.

Just to be on the safe side, steer clear of hi-tech fairs and bring no robots into your home. ‘Cause you never know when they might program themselves to be smarter than you and take away your stuff.

Hospital Day

I had to go to the hospital this morning, and then I have to go again this afternoon. If I was a dog they’d put me down.

It’s only a blood test and a cat scan, but I’ve been up to my neck in this stuff since last June and it’s wearing me out.

Meanwhile, as peace talks loom, Russia and Ukraine are belting each other with drones. Why does that remind me of The Terminator? Remember that scene of the robots crushing heaped-up human skulls? I mean, come on, is this any way to bring in peace talks?

Are we going to give up killing each other like civilized people and leave it all up to robots? Is that what passes for “progress” in a fallen world?

Let’s see if we can find a hymn to lift our spirits. Well, mine at least.

‘Insects’ Brains for Computers?’ (2019)

“Eureka! We did it, we did it!”

A few years ago the Pentagon offered a $1 million reward to anybody who could install a live and functioning insect brain into a robot. (“Mad, you say? It’ll show those fools at Stanford who’s mad!”) We haven’t heard whether anybody’s claimed the reward or not.

Insects’ Brains for Computers?

Somebody out there is working pretty hard to see that we wind up in a 1950s monster movie. A housefly armed with death rays–what could possibly go wrong?

Oops! India ‘Accidentally’ Fires Missile into Pakistan

The Top 15 Onscreen Terminator Robots, Ranked in Order

What’s next–the Terminator?

So you want a computer chip implanted in your brain so you can do smart things, do you?

Well, India has “accidentally” fired an unarmed missile into Pakistan, owing to a “technical malfunction” (https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4045853/posts). It must’ve been a really smart bomb: it didn’t hit anything and didn’t kill anybody. India calls the incident “deeply regrettable” and has set up a court of inquiry to find out exactly what went wrong.

India and Pakistan have been to war several times, and this could have, with any bad luck, started another one. Just what the world needs, just now. Because some techie hit the wrong button on his keyboard… or a computer briefly went haywire.

Gives you a lot of confidence in modern defense systems, doesn’t it.

‘Top Scientist: Here Comes Immortality!’ (2018)

Do we really, truly, want this guy around for the next 3,000 years?

If someone offered you an “immortality” consisting of a wax dummy of yourself that endlessly repeated some of your favorite catch-phrases, you wouldn’t buy it. But if Me 2.0 was made of a lot fancier technology, what then?

Top Scientist: Here Comes Immortality!

All of this “live forever!” schiff boils down to simulation: some thing, created by men’s hands, will continue to imitate you long after you’re gone.

Otherwise… Good grief, think about a world in which the politicians never die!

‘Can Fools Create Wise Computers?’ (2014)

In a word, No–fools cannot create wise computers. In fact, “wisdom” is not something that can be imparted to any computer, by anyone.

Can Fools Create Wise Computers?

Even so, we have “scientists” warning us that someday the computers are going to be way smarter than us and they’re gonna take over and OMG we’re all gonna die, die, die–!

Well, they’d better do it fast, because we’ve only got 11 years now before Climbit Change does us in.

This reminds me of one of those mysteries in which the victim seems to be going far out of his way to get himself murdered. Suspects? The line forms at the right.

But this is about stupid people creating really smart computers.

Can Fools Create Wise Computers?

Some things just never change. Is this anything but idol worship? Not only insulting and ungrateful to God, but shameful and ridiculous as well.

Little children, keep yourselves from idols (1 John 5:21).

“I told you we shouldn’t’ve funded this!”

(Thanks to Susan for the news tip)

Your tax dollars at work! The Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), “emerging technologies unit,” is offering $1 million dollars to whatever company is awarded the contract to–wait for it!–find a way to install insect brains in robots to control the robots (https://nexusnewsfeed.com/article/consciousness/darpa-wants-to-build-conscious-robots-using-insect-brains).

Mad scientists? What mad scientists? Oh, come now.

Says a Pentagon source, “Even small insects have subjective experiences, the first step toward a concept of ‘consciousness.'”

See, we need robots with consciousness to–well, kowabunga, I don’t know how to finish that sentence! I just can’t think of even a mildly compelling reason for this.

As every lunatic knows, insects are famous for their willingness to cooperate with human beings and their plans. Just imagine The Terminator with the mind of a bedbug. We’ve already got Congressmen and administrators, to say nothing of college professors,  with the minds of insect pests. Why not some really powerful robots armed with death rays? Killer drones that can think for themselves and do what they think needs doing?

Are the people who run this country quite all there?

Put it on the list with the oceans overflowing, the oceans drying up, transphobia, and all the rest of the disaster du jour stuff.
