The Die Is Cast

What a storm we had last night! For 47 years I’ve been slamming our back door shut against the wind and rain. Last night, for the only time in history, it went perfectly into the door frame and then wouldn’t come out. Happily, our neighbor Josh took care of it this morning.

Meanwhile, we have decided to get me a hip replacement before we do anything else. My wife and my sister (nursing student, Advanced Practice Nurse) have the credentials and I’d be a fool not to take their advice. I’m not looking forward to any more time in the hospital–but again, I trust Patty and Alice to steer me right.

At least the murderous heat got washed away last night. A nice day for reading a book and smoking a cigar.

    1. I’m not doing anything in particular this afternoon, so I could take care of it for you today. I’ve always been good with mechanical stuff. 🙂

Ok, time to get serious. Over 20 years ago, a dear aunt needed a hip replacement. I was he only nearby relative, so I went to the hospital with her, and stayed with her until the surgery started. I sat in the waiting room and had barely gotten settled in when the surgeon came out and told me that they were done and that things had gone well. I was quite surprised by how quickly it went, but it’s obvious that they have this down to a science. The surgeon, in this case, looked to be about 30 years old, which is to say probably a year or two out of residency, and he did a great job.

  1. Curious here what the slave-master doctors are going to say about this decision, after all they think they are God, right?
