‘Oy, Rodney: the Do-Over REPRINT

Oy Rodney – Lee Duigon

From August 10, 2025

The publishing world is agog today over the decision by Violet Crepuscular, the Queen of Suspense, to re-write, from the beginning, her epic romance, Oy, Rodney.

But what about the 500-plus chapters already written? What about the herd of woolly mammoths invading Scurveyshire? And all the other stuff?

“Never mind that!” Ms. Crepuscular says, in an interview by some guy. “Mr. Pitfall has convinced me that there’s nothing like a new beginning, so that’s what we’re going to do. To that end, I am inviting readers–I’ve got a zillion of ’em–to submit ideas for a new Oy, Rodney Chapter One. And then we’ll take it from there.”

Submissions, she adds, must be accompanied by 400 dollars in new Monopoly money.

As Ms. Crepuscular’s long-time editor, I have nothing to say about that.

No, I have nothing to say at all.

Boy, Was I Busy Today

I really was busy all day today–one thing and another. I got out to the store very early.  Thankfully, no police officer stopped me for the outdated inspection sticker.  That is a hefty fine I assume.

Tomorrow I will drop the car off for inspection.

I have a few things lined up for tomorrow–hopefully they will get done (or mostly done).

A great deal warmer today.  Not warm, but warmer than it has been.

Now I will go start my supper.

God bless everybody.

This is Boo and Snoopy on their special orthopedic dog mattress.  Will tell you about Snoopy tomorrow.  He is the most recent member of my daughter’s pack.

Today Started off as a Real Stinker

I rise very, very early.  This morning YouTube (which I rely on heavily for certain content) would NOT work.  And it would not tell me why.

This you really need at 5 am.  I tried in vain to fix the problem, but there was no way of finding out what the problem was.  This ate up close to an hour.  It turned out I must have still been paying with Lee’s old inactive credit card.  Jeez fellas, if you had told me that at the beginning, it would have saved a great deal of time and anguish.  I don’t think Google has too many real, live human beings working there.  You get asked meaningless questions that do not pertain to the problem you are trying to solve and there is no way of hooking up to a real, live person who would grasp the situation in a minute.  It was a very frustrating hour or so.

After that I did get a chance to work on my tax stuff, but still felt like I was running behind all day.

We are supposed to get another snowstorm this weekend.  And the frigid temperatures, as well.  Hot diggity.

If I sound a little grumpy and short-tempered right now, it’s because I am a little grumpy and short tempered right now.

So I will take my grumpy little self and start my supper and watch some TV.  That should help.

Please stay safe and warm.

God bless everybody.

A Pretty Good Day, After All

Just a brief note.

Did a lot of diddly-stuff today, and (dare I say it?) the downstairs is looking a lot better.  Upstairs, not so hot.  Actually untouched–that’s a much bigger job, but it will be done.  Have to keep reminding myself there is no time limit.

It’s still pretty much a disaster around here, but not quite as big a disaster.

There’s a great deal of talk on the weather sites about this impending storm.  They all agree it is a pretty big one.  I just don’t want a power failure.  Power failure=no heat.  I still have really bad memories of Hurricane Sandy where we were without power (no heat) for five days.  It was November then and cold, but nowhere as bitterly cold as it is now.

Are any of you concerned about this ?  Will it be a problem in your area?

It is really not supposed to start until the weekend, but I will make sure I am as prepared as I can be.

God bless everybody

Hubris and Stupidity Plus Greed= Disaster

Today while I was looking back on some of Lee’s posts, deciding which one to pick, a story caught my eye.  I had never seen this post before.  Somehow it had slipped past.  Lee always read me his posts before he entered them, but this one I missed.

It was about the city of Decatur, Illinois where (as Lee states in his post) the city fathers are storing CO2 under the lake.  This is to “take CO2 out of the atmosphere and lock it away where it can’t do any harm.”

This imbecilic project even has a high falutin’ name  The CO2 Sequestration Project.  Give me strength, Lord.

Where to begin?  This is so incredibly stupid.  The atmosphere?  Of the whole planet?  Are they daft?  Do they have dreams of putting CO2 under the earth all over the world?

This is literally too dumb an idea to even express.

I went down the rabbit hole following this story, but there is more to come.  Talk about fantasies!

I’m sure some green changed hands for this one.

More to come.

See you tomorrow.

God bless everybody

No News Right Now

Really can’t talk right now.

I have to go back to battle with a recalcitrant kitchen sink.  I will win this battle and this war, even if I have to call a plumber.

Actually the picture you are seeing is me facing the sink.  I know the thing in my hand looks amazingly like a sword, but it is really a disguised plunger. The shield will keep me from getting splashed.

Catch you tomorrow.

God bless everybody

You Might Have Noticed this

You have probably noticed the word Reprint next to Lee’s posts–here’s the reason.

There are almost 43,000 posts in this blog.  Those are Lee’s posts only.  Mine are additional to that, but they are all new.  To keep things straight (and save my sanity) when I re-post an item of Lee’s it will be flagged so that I know it has already been re-posted. I hope that is not distracting, but it is the easiest way for me to know if I have already used one of his postings.

Hope that makes sense.

Catch you later.

TODAY

Oddly, today turned out to be really productive.

My hopes for today were  originally pretty slim.  The weather was atrocious, with a drizzling, not-quite-freezing rain, dark skies and generally crappy tone.  I managed to get out and do some errands, arrange for my car to be inspected tomorrow and catch up a little bit.  I got two grocery orders delivered, so the catering front is up to speed.  The town was a ghost town today, also.  That was a surprise–one of the stops was a liquor store and I thought for sure that would be a zoo, what with the New Year parties coming up.  Nobody was in the store but me and one other woman.

I have to  get out of here early tomorrow to drop my car at the mechanics.  It would be great if they could finish it tomorrow (hopefully without any expensive problems).

All in all, not a half-bad day.

God bless everybody.

A Bit of a Downer Day

We are now expecting freezing rain for overnight.  I hope it doesn’t materialize because I have errands to do tomorrow.  Also the constant gray and overcast days kill what little energy I do have.

I also avoided mentioning bad news for the Christmas season, but I really have to mention that now, in 12 of the 50 United States of America, physician-assisted suicide is now legal.  Doctors who do not want to participate will have to direct patients seeking such services to other physicians who will provide them.  This is also called the MAID program–medical assistance in dying.  This is not going to go away easily.  My next question is–when will it become compulsory?

I pray for my country every day.  It needs it.

Please stay safe and warm

God bless everybody.

Today

The predicted snow did materialize, but not quite as much as they had forecast.  That’s fine with me.

Yesterday, the handymen came and I now have a nice bright fluorescent light in the kitchen.  What a difference that makes.  No more preparing supper a la flashlight.  They were very efficient and were here for only 15 minutes.  Now I can see how sadly neglected that kitchen is.  That will be one of my projects for next week.  That and getting my car to inspection.

Every year, for our anniversary, Lee would make me a card.  He was a good cartoonist, and the cards would be decorated with these various  characters that he had made up.  These characters were featured in the story he would tell me at bedtime.  Yes–I got a bedtime story.  Every night.  Except for the last few years.  Today I came upon the large manila envelope that I had saved many of them in.  Should I open this–I asked myself.

I did open it and I shouldn’t have.  It’s far too soon to look at anything like that.  To be honest, it set me off for a while.

It is very gray and overcast today.  It looks like it could snow some more, but it isn’t supposed to.

I am going to watch some TV, prepare my supper and go to bed early.  As I usually do.

God bless everybody

Patty
