GETTING NAGGED… BY FOOTBALL
This is how we know we should End Racism.
I’ve begun to feel ashamed of ever having been an NFL football fan.
Their latest caper is to post “Social Justice messages” in the end zones. Do we watch sports just to get a dose of lecturing?

In case you mistakenly thought you were just going to enjoy some football, this’ll set you straight. “END RACISM.” “STOP HATE.” “CHOOSE LOVE.” “INSPIRE CHANGE.” These little tut-tuts will appear in the end zones throughout the games; and in some venues, on the players’ helmets.
Do they think we’re all in kindergarten?
(Yeahbut, yeahbut! How are we gonna know to end racism unless the end zones tell us?)
Is America losing all self-respect? “Inspire Change.” Oh, yeah.
It’ll be a mighty cold day in July before I watch another football game. Let them go lecture someone who enjoys being nagged.
Actor Morgan Freeman famously said: “ if you want to end racism quit talking about it”. I don’t deny that it exists, I’ve seen it with my own eyes, but having it be the centerpiece of every conversation won’t make any difference.
I’ve known people who rated other races. Nothing you said was going to change that; it was rooted deep in their hearts. But if we refuse to play along with such negative attitudes, we disarm such people. Thinking of one person whom I knew, in particular, I just never played along, and didn’t react to his negative behavior. What could he do, because his strategy didn’t work when he was around me.
This fellow went to his death, hating anyone that had a darker complexion than himself, and nothing written in the end-zone of a football field was going to change his thinking. In the strangest of ironies, he had a medical condition that darkened his complexion, over time, and by the time of his death, he was as dark skinned as many of the ethnicities he hated.
Here’s my take on it; skin color doesn’t matter. I’ve met some great people of every lineage imaginable. Character is an individual thing, and not tied to our ancestry.
I’ve actually had some fun with all of this, because I have recent Asian heritage, but appear fully Caucasian. Let’s just say that I’ve surprised a few people in my day. The smart ones backpedal, the not so smart ones don’t get it and plow onward, looking more foolish with every syllable.
We live in a world of many ethnicities and a variety of cultural backgrounds, and it’s easy to latch onto these as being significant, but that doesn’t always work. Last year, I had a conversation with a coworker of Chinese ancestry. When I revealed my stealth Asian status he found that interesting, but the common ground between us was actually that both of us had similar religious influences, growing up. So it just goes to show, we are a lot more complex than our mere appearance.
“Anti-racism” is a big business.
Indeed.
How about this message in the end zones, Stop Hate – Follow the Nazarene.
I request the song “We’re One Blood” by Buddy Davis, it fits this post.
I just thought of another song that would fit this post so well, also by Buddy Davis. “I Wish the World Could Love Like Them”
