That is something. This touches me deeply to watch. Loneliness is a terrible thing, even for animals. It all serves to demonstrate just how broken this fallen world is.
I know. Right now I have periods of loneliness. It is better than it was, but it is still not good.
It’s a real challenge. The problem of isolation has become infinitely worse since the lockdown, which was a setback we have yet to fully recover from. All I can advise is to take whatever small steps you can to engage with others, even in casual transactions.
That’s what I am trying to do.
It’s strange, but even 15 seconds of chatting with a cashier can help.
Yes, human contact is good–even a real phone call (no texts).
Definitely. Texts are sterile and a much lower quality of communications.
I am a phone person–it might be generational. My daughter, not so much. We do talk a fair amount though. I like to hear the voice!
There is a science known as communication theory, which describes how communications actually functions. There are different qualities of communications. Graffiti is one way communications; it sends its message, with no built-in method of reply.
A telephone is a very effective mode of communications, with both sides able to reply to one another in real time. You can hear the voice of the other party, including non verbal cues, such as tone of voice, breathing, etc. You can’t see body language, but for non visual communications, it’s pretty good.
SMS (texting), is a much lower quality communication mode. I use it for a handful of things, but I don’t want it to be a major part of my communications picture.
