Research Says Cats Like Their Owners as Much as Dogs Do. I could have told them that.

My Peep adored me.  When I came home from a 4 day hospital stay she followed me all over, slept with me every night, and basically never left my side.  She loved me like nobody else ever did.

  1. Years ago, with a now deceased, and much missed cat, I experienced something similar. I had minor shoulder surgery, which, while not systemically as significant as abdominal surgery, can be confining while the shoulder adjusts to the insult of the arthroscope having intruded.

I was somewhat limited in movement for over a week, and my beloved little black cat seemed to understand that I was not up to par for that week. During that time, she spent almost all of her time right next to me, just letting me know that I wasn’t going through this process alone. And, believe me, it made a difference. I felt loved, and looked after.

She followed me wherever I went in the house, and seemed very aware of my status. As I stated earlier, this wasn’t the kind of surgery that had a significant systemic effect which required my system to reboot itself, and by day two I was up to snuff, beyond some discomfort and having to wear a sling, but until I was back to normal ops, she was right there. As I approached full recovery, she went back to her normal self, which was still very affectionate and loyal, but no longer omnipresent.

These creatures are all here for a reason, and the more common domestic animals serve as very direct support, all while serving to guard our homes, herd our flocks, keep our homes free from pests and, in the case of cats, giving us some much needed supervision. 🙂
