
If you can make people say things they know are not true, or which they believe to be wicked or idiotic, you’re well on your way to establishing a tyranny. You’ve struck a blow against their self-respect, and they won’t give you much trouble if they can’t respect themselves.
A few years ago, this court case (Sixth Circuit) took away a university’s power to compel professors and students to say things they didn’t believe. It’s still going on, though–how would you stop it? “Say the right thing”–usually the politically correct thing–“or lose your job!”
That’s liberalism. And it’s toxic to human rights and dignity.
