Yee-hah, public education! Ain’t it grand?
Hamilton High School in Memphis, TN, was having its graduation ceremony a few days ago when a fight broke out among the student body (https://wreg.com/news/local/fight-between-students-breaks-out-at-hamilton-high-graduation/). Somehow “gang signs” started it. We didn’t have gang signs in our high school.
Police had to intervene, arresting and removing the battling students: hauled them off to the cop shop while they were still in graduation robes. The ceremony continued after the brou-haha was quelled.
One of the police officers was injured in the melee.
Hello? Where are these kids’ fathers? I don’t like to imagine how my father would have dealt with me, had I dared to get into a fight in the middle of freakin’ graduation.
What did some of these characters get up to, during the regular school year? Obviously “school officials” didn’t know how to handle them. What–just give ’em a diploma and kiss ’em goodbye? Is that how it works?
I’m afraid that’s exactly how it works.
