Lord Emsworth Acts for the Best
Something tells me I’m going to need a good laugh before this day is done. Maybe several of ’em. I don’t know what there is to make me laugh: but when all else fails, there’s P.G. Wodehouse’s Blandings Castle stories.
These are some of the funniest stories ever written. The style is full of surprises, the characters are out to lunch, and the situations are preposterous. How Wodehouse was able to keep writing them for 63 years is both a mystery and an inspiration to me.
The BBC TV series, Blandings, brought a dozen of these stories to life and should have gone for more. But anything that Lord Emsworth can accomplish without doing himself a mischief is more than we expect.
