This little fellow went through a bad patch some months ago, but he’s making a comeback. This is an old Norbert video, but there’ve been a couple of brand-new ones, plus new still photos, most days.
We can always count on Norbert to make us smile.

Gee, look how easy it is to give a pup a bath! All it takes is patience, treats, and the right equipment. Of course, I’ve never had to do it. Does bathing an iguana count as experience?
Why are some dogs so terrified of cats? Search me–but it’s horrible public relations for Doggy Corp. Inc. Isn’t there some union that enforces the standards? Really, guys, you don’t want cats seeing this.
Boyhood memory: A black cocker spaniel named Toby–same as the dog in this video–chased a squirrel up a tree; and had so much momentum, he ran right up the trunk, after the squirrel. Only then did he realize he was now stranded up a tree and had no idea how to get down. He had to be rescued with a ladder. P.S.–he never did it again.
Are there any animals who understand what a reflection is? Yeesh, I had a chameleon who just about exploded when he saw himself in a mirror. But what stumps a lizard shouldn’t baffle a dog… should it?
Our family dog, Rags, never played hide-and-seek until he was old and had lost much of his hearing. Suddenly he became a hide-and-seek fanatic, wanted to play it every day. Well, why not? Humans have to be good for something; any dog will tell you that.
Actually we’re speaking literally here: dogs love to slide down slippery surfaces. (All dogs? You sure about that?) Well, all right–all the dogs in this video. They’re having a blast. Wish I could join them.
My doctor’s office has a poster which asserts that dogs and cats are good for babies, they help develop Baby’s immune system. What I really want to know is what you think of that weird-looking rug featured in this video. It’s distracting.
If any of us did the things these dogs are doing, we’d be considered rather odd. (Um, hold it there a minute–I’m not so sure that came out as it should have.)
Dogs (and cats) have surplus brain power. More than they need. The thing that beats me is, how do they use it? What’s going on up there in doggy’s head? What looks goofy to us might not be so goofy… if only we understood it.
