Beautiful, ‘I Love to Tell the Story’

This is another Sunday school favorite: I Love to Tell the Story, written by Arabella Hankey in 1868 and sung gorgeously by the Harpeth Gospel Choir. Amazing, what trained human voices can do in praise of the Lord!

‘I Love to Tell the Story’ (Alan Jackson)

Every word is clear, every note is pure, in Alan Jackson’s rendition of this well-loved old hymn, I Love to Tell the Story. Brings back fond memories of Sunday school. But the best thing about these old hymns is that they aren’t just memories–they’re still here today. Even as God is always here.

‘I Love to Tell the Story’

It’s not only the greatest story ever told. It’s also the most important story ever told–of Jesus and His love.

I don’t know who these singers are, but they’re pretty amazing.

Hymn, ‘I Love to Tell the Story’

Ordinarily I’m not one for cowboy hats and guitars; but this rendition of I Love to Tell the Story by Alan Jackson really is quite beautiful, and it has touched my heart.

I know I repeat myself a lot, with the hymns that I select myself. But I wouldn’t be doing that so much if more readers requested hymns that they would like to hear. Lee’s Hymn Shop is open to all: just post any request in “leave a comment,” under any other post. I’ll see it.

Hymn: ‘I Love to Tell the Story’

Start your day with Jesus and His love. This old hymn was a favorite in our church, when I was a boy.

I don’t go to that church anymore because it has been changed, and not for the better. But it was a wonderful church to grow up in, before it got changed, and I find that the older I get, the fresher are my memories of it.

This hymn has been with me all week. It’s a good companion.
