‘We Don’t Own the Schools We Pay For’ (2019)

The Teachers' “Red for Ed” Movement Is Far From Dead

Do we want to buy this? “Red” means “socialist” or “communist.”  And these are teachers’ union members.

Almost everywhere else in life, if you pay for something, you own it. Maybe it’ll require a series of payments before you take ownership. But eventually whatever it is… is yours.

But not in government-land. There you never stop paying and never acquire ownership.

We Don’t Own the Schools We Pay For

Is this just? Is this right? We have no say in who runs out public schools, who teaches in them, what they teach, how they’re paid… all we do is pay and pay and pay. If we vote down the school budget, the State Dept. of Education simply nullifies our vote. (Maybe it’s different in your state, but that’s how we do it here in Jersey. We call it “Democracy.”)

But let’s not own public education. It’s not worth owning. Bring the children out of public education for home, religious, or private schooling.
