Oklahoma Schools Rebel Against Bible Teaching

You’d think it’d go without saying that you can’t meaningfully understand the development of Western civilization and still ignore or deny the influence of the Bible.

The Oklahoma Superintendent of Schools, Ryan Walters, has directed that a Bible be provided to every school classroom, grades 5-12, as part of the study of the “core values and historical context of our country” (https://abcnews.go.com/US/new-oklahoma-bible-directive-faces-pushback-schools/story?id=112440099). For this he is now facing “an intense backlash” from “educators” and–of course!–the teachers’ union, the Oklahoma Education Assn.

A number of school districts have actively rebelled against it, claiming that they must show “neutrality and objectivity” in the study of religion. When was the last time you saw “educators” trot out neutrality and objectivity when it comes to teaching “gender” etc.?

This could easily find its way into the courts, but Mr. Walters seems untroubled by that possibility. Maybe today’s U.S. Supreme Court won’t be so eager to ban the Bible.

Christian America, hear this: the public schools and teachers’ unions are not your friends.

How many times do they have to prove it to you?

P.S.–Utah schools last year banned the Bible from elementary and middle schools on account of, so they said, “vulgarity and violence” in the text. A major portion of the Bible deals with history. Can you study history without acknowledging that there is vulgarity and violence in it? Or are they too busy trying to turn boys into girls and girls into boys to bother with any serious consideration of human history?
