“Who goes there? And how fast can you shinny up a tree?”
No, I’m not joking. Rome has a wild boar problem (https://www.countere.com/home/wild-boars-have-invaded-rome-italy). That’s Rome, Italy, by the way. Julius Caesar and all that.
Officials estimate there are some 23,000 (!) wild boars roaming in and around the city, attracted by the urban center’s garbage. Worse: Organized Crime has trash removal contracts, which they fulfill just by hauling the trash out of the city and dumping it anywhere they please. This has contributed to a population explosion among the porkers.
The Italian government wants to relax hunting restrictions, but a strong animal rights lobby opposes it.
Ancient mythology and folklore–Greek, Welsh, Roman, Norse–expresses a great deal of awe for these animals.
But that was before they had cities full of garbage to tempt them out of the woods.
