‘Christ Triumphant, Ever Reigning’

Somehow this hymn reminds me of Psalm 2:

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against His anointed, saying, Let us burst their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us!

He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall He speak unto them in His wrath, and vex them in His sore displeasure.

Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: Thou art my son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession…

Not what the rulers of this age want to hear! But He shall reign, and in the end, there’s nothing they can do about it.

  1. Indeed, Psalm 2 is one of my most favorite in all Scripture. I look forward to the time when it is fulfilled in total. I am so weary of the raging of the heathen, and so long for the peaceful reign of our Lord.

  2. Thank you, Lee. And Amen, Erlene! But we must be patient until all lost are found. This world tries the patience of the saints, but Praise God, He is longsuffering.

2 Peter 3:9 ‘The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.’

May I suggest ‘I Sing the Mighty Power of God’ – Isaac Watts’ hymn from 1715 sung by The Ball Brothers. (with lyrics) is a very nice version.
