Now I Have No Facebook at All

What are they trying to do to me?

This morning I have no Facebook connection at all. When I try to reconnect, WordPress tells me it’s “not allowed.” What?

Is this all to force me to use their shiny new “block editing”? Well, I can’t use it! And I don’t want to use it! I’m here to write, not sod around with computers.

WordPress acts more like an adversary than the provider of a service. But of course if I leave I’ll lost an archive numbering thousands of posts.

No wonder I’m down 120 views a day.

P.S.–Jill has found other Facebook buttons I can use, so at least I can go back to sharing my blog posts on my wife’s Facebook page. The only drawback is that the new buttons don’t tell me how many readers have shared the post. Maybe it’s a WordPress glitch that’ll go away. I don’t know.

  1. Oh, no! Is there any way Chalcedon can move you over to a different service provider? It seems there’s been nothing but trouble with WordPress for the past 6 months…. And as I typed that, it suddenly occurred to me that the time span somehow coincides with the Wuhan disruptions. I don’t know what to make of it, but it seems … odd? sinister? (Cue discordant background music.)

    1. The thing that holds me back from leaving WordPress is the certainty that I’d lose my whole archive–and it might be hard for a lot of my readers to find me again.
I’ll have to ask Jill if she can fix this mess today, but she’s on Pacific Time so I’ll have to wait.

    1. I’ve seen it, though, and what I saw just looked like swirling chaos. There are certain things that I can’t learn. You should’ve seen my poor father trying to teach me how to drive a standard shift. It was impossible. Like high school chemistry.
Yes, they have tutorials for the block editor–but I can’t understand those, either. Too much computer lingo.
Why couldn’t they just leave me alone???

  2. Facebook is a racist facist entity, you are better off without them, side note: Twitter and Reddit are not much better. I migrated to LinkedIn although at first they was a little reluctant to accept me, but they graciously apologised and updated there systems and training to be a more inclusive community .
