The Colossus of Rhodes was one of the Seven Wonders of the World. This bronze statue, over 100 feet tall, took twelve years to build. When finished, in 280 B.C.,  it stood guard over the harbor of the island of Rhodes. In 226 B.C. an earthquake broke the statue off at the knees; and for 800 years the fallen, broken pieces were an international tourist attraction.

Now! How would you like your own colossus? The Colossus of Eddie Porbeagle, towering over the town of Zonguldak, Nebraska! The Colossus of Minnie Spinnitch, the pride and joy of Hoodoo Township, New York–has a ring to it, doesn’t it?

It must be revealed that the original Colossus was made of bronze, not bricks. But now we have the technology to make ’em out of recycled plastic–and paper! Just hang onto your junk until you have enough to make the colossus, then send away for the instructions and get busy! And hey, nobody said you have to have a big colossus. Although a miniature colossus kind of misses the point.

Be the first twaddler on your block to have your own colossus!

  1. Thanks for the reminder. It has been years since I had thought about this thing. I used to read and study a lot about that era and all its aspects. Good to be reminded again.
