All of These Are Gone…

What do all these nations have in common?

Edomites, Elamites, Philistines, Lydians, Phrygians, Lycaonians, Bithynians, Seleucid Empire, Ptolemaic Empire,  Sabaeans, Carthaginians, Carians, Lycians, Phoenicians… and believe me, the list could be three or four times longer.

But what do they all have in common?

They were all contemporaneous with Israel/Judah–enemies, allies, competitors.

And today they’re all gone. Wiped off the map. Their DNA is still floating around, but their cultures, their languages, their traditions, have vanished.

But Israel is still here. Most of those nations, at one time or another, were much richer, much stronger, than Israel or Judah. Some of them created empires. But they’re all gone.

Did God say He would preserve a remnant of Israel?

Did God say He would plant them back in the land that He had given them?

Cimmerians, Mysians, Moabites, Chittim, Perizzites, Dardanians…

  1. Not to mention the HIttites and Amorites.

And if things go on the way they’ve been going, maybe the Americans as well. 🙁

    1. The regathering of Israel is a fulfillment of prophecy we can see in our time. It’s no accident and was predicted as far back as Deuteronomy. (I realize that you already know this, Erlene, but I am merely stating it in support of your post.) The situation of Ezekiel 38 seems to be taking form before our eyes. Persia (Iran) is openly hostile and the various alignments of political forces seem to be in place. We are told that this hostile action against Israel will gather like a storm, so it could occur on short notice.

I would not want to have any part in that attack. Fighting directly against God is not good for one’s health. 🙂

    1. Unknowable, I’ll save you the trouble and give you the best part, “If the statistics are right, the Jews constitute but one per cent of the human race. It suggests a nebulous dim puff of star-dust lost in the blaze of the Milky Way. Properly the Jew ought hardly to be heard of; but he is heard of, has always been heard of. He is as prominent on the planet as any other people, and his commercial importance is extravagantly out of proportion to the smallness of his bulk. His contributions to the world’s list of great names in literature, science, art, music, finance, medicine, and abstruse learning are also away out of proportion to the weakness of his numbers. He has made a marvellous fight in this world, in all the ages; and has done it with his hands tied behind him. He could be vain of himself, and be excused for it. The Egyptian, the Babylonian, and the Persian rose, filled the planet with sound and splendour, then faded to dream-stuff and passed away; the Greek and the Roman followed, and made a vast noise, and they are gone; other peoples have sprung up and held their torch high for a time, but it burned out, and they sit in twilight now, or have vanished. The Jew saw them all, beat them all, and is now what he always was, exhibiting no decadence, no infirmities of age, no weakening of his parts, no slowing of his energies, no dulling of his alert and aggressive mind. All things are mortal to the Jew; all other forces pass, but he remains. What is the secret of his immortality?”

    2. Thanks for posting that, Watchman.

The secret is simple, God told Abram that He would bless his seed, as a blessing to all nations. Those who bless the seed of Abraham will be blessed and those who curse the seed of Abraham will bring a curse upon themselves.

A lot of people don’t understand why God did this. It wasn’t simply to bless Abraham and his seed. This was God’s way of blessing all nations. You, I and everyone else can be blessed by means of Abraham’s seed producing Jesus as Messiah and Savior.

The nation of Israel was dispersed for their disobedience, but the identity of the Jewish people has remained distinct, even as they lived in diaspora. They were regathered while still in an unbelieving state. Eventually, after the Gog of Magog event, Israel will be fully restored to faithfulness.

  2. Great posts, Unknowable2. I so enjoy reading what Bible knowledgeable people share, and you and the others have just shared words that are so encouraging in a day when so few people understand these things, and really do not want to understand. One day, all will understand, but for many, it will be too late,
    and I sorrow for them.

    1. In 1967, the Six Day War ended with the Israeli’s in possession of all Jerusalem. It took some time, but I now feel that I was seeing prophecy fulfilled. Now, we see that alliances we would expect for Gog of Magog, so perhaps we’ll see Ezekiel 38 fulfilled soon. It’s an interesting time in which to live.
